A Local’s Guide to Soaking Up the Last Days of Summer in Knoxville

A Local’s Guide to Soaking Up the Last Days of Summer in Knoxville

As August draws closer, the start of school is on the horizon and many Knoxvillians begin dreaming of fall colors and football Saturdays. But for those of us who love to hold on to summer as long as we can, Knoxville offers plenty of summer activities to enjoy in the later part of the season. Explore a few of our favorite activities to make the most of the last summer days in Knoxville.

Enjoy the Sounds of Summer with an Outdoor Concert
The City of Knoxville hosts free summer concerts in Market Square through the end of August. Relax to jazz on Tuesday evenings or catch a Thursday concert once a month featuring a different artist each concert. Grab a bite to eat at one of Knoxville’s many downtown restaurants before setting up your lawn chair for the concert. In Farragut, the Lawn Chair Concert series concludes in August with Yacht Rock in Mayor Ralph McGill Plaza. This event is fun for the family with local food trucks, yard games and a kid zone.

Spend a Day on the Water
Nothing quite says summer in Knoxville like a day on Fort Loudoun Lake. If you’re looking for a laid-back afternoon with friends or family, Sun Life Concord Marina rents pontoons and party barges. While you do need a valid driver’s license, you don’t need a boating license to take a pontoon out on the water in Tennessee. Pack a cooler, head out on the water, and relax the day away on the lake.

If you’re after something a little more active on Fort Loudoun Lake, River Sports Outfitters has you covered with kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. This is a great option if you prefer a shorter and lower cost lake day adventure. Pack a picnic to enjoy in Concord Park to refuel after enjoying time on the water.

Indulge in Summer Flavors & Flowers at Local Markets
The end of summer is one of the best times for fresh summer produce and flowers. Heirloom tomatoes, corn, okra, and peaches line the stalls of the farmers markets. Knoxville has many markets throughout the week, so you can choose the best one for your schedule. Nourish Knoxville hosts a Saturday and Wednesday market in Downtown Knoxville, West Knoxville offers the Ebenezer Farmers Market on Tuesdays, and Farragut provides the Dixie Lee Farmers’ Market on Saturdays and the Turkey Creek Farmers Market on Sundays.

For summer blooms, you will also want to check out Valley Flower Farm. Located in Hardin Valley, this beautiful flower farm offers events and the opportunity to pick your own bouquet. Stroll the flower fields and pick a beautiful bouquet for yourself or someone special.

Whether it’s an outdoor concert on a warm evening, a relaxing day on the lake, or a slow stroll through the market stalls, these activities are perfect for enjoying the summer season before it slips away into fall.

Many of these activities are near our Knoxville communities, so if you’re looking for your next home in Knoxville, contact us today to learn more about what the local area has to offer! Our Knoxville team of home building and real estate professionals will be happy to help.
